Shawcor Ltd. is a growth-oriented, global energy services company that operates with a focus on technology-based products and services for the pipeline and pipe services market and the petrochemical and industrial market with manufacturing and service facilities located in over twenty countries around the world.

Shawcor Ltd is now in its 50th year as a public company, beginning as a specialty pipe coater in Ontario, Canada and growing into a diversified global energy services company.

Important milestones in the Company's history include:

  • 1930s Shawcor evolves from a general construction company established by Francis E. Shaw in south-western Ontario to pipecoating applications.
  • 1950s Shaw Pipe Protection Limited, a specialized pipecoating company, is formed and introduces "Yellow Jacket" polyethylene coating.
  • 1960s Pipecoating plants are established in Regina, Edmonton, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver; first international expansion occurs in Australia.
  • 1969 Shaw Pipe Industries Ltd. is incorporated in 1968 and converts to a public company on June 27, 1969; common shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
  • 1970s Shaw Pipe Protection expands into the United States, participates in several international projects and introduces fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) coatings.
  • 1980 Corporate name change to Shaw Industries Ltd. from Shaw Pipe Industries Ltd. reflects diverse nature of the growing business.
  • 1987 Company enters oil country tubular markets with the acquisition of Guardian Inspection Services Ltd.
  • 1991 Shaw Pipeline Services is formed to commercialize internally developed ultrasonic pipeline girth weld inspection technology.
  • 1996 Shaw Industries enters joint venture with Dresser Industries to form Bredero Shaw, the world's largest pipecoating business.
  • 1998 Canusa-EMI acquires German based DSG group of companies, expands presence in global heat shrink markets and adopts DSG-Canusa name worldwide.
  • 2000 Shaw Pipeline Services acquires radiographic inspection assets and business of Edwards Pipeline Services to strengthen operations in the United States.
  • 2001 Corporate name changed to Shawcor Ltd.
  • 2002 Shawcor acquires the 50% of Joint Venture with Dresser Industries that it did not already own, making Bredero Shaw the world's largest pipecoating company now fully owned by Shawcor.
  • 2003 Shawcor is awarded contract to provide pipecoating for the Ormen Lange Pipeline Project, which, at 1,200 km in length, is the world's longest subsea pipeline.
  • 2006 Shawcor achieves record revenue and net income from continuing operations and acquires a 50% interest in Bredero Shaw Revestimentos de Tubos Ltda. in Brazil.
  • 2007 Shawcor's Chairman for the past twenty-two years, Leslie Shaw, passes away on January 17, 2007; Virginia Shaw becomes Chair of Shawcor Ltd. on February 7, 2008.
  • 2008 Shawcor acquires Flexpipe Systems Inc., a leading manufacturer of flexible composite pipe used for oil and gas gathering systems, water transportation, CO2 injection and other corrosive applications.
  • 2010 Remaining 50% interest in Thermotite Brasil Ltda. and BS Servicios de Injeção acquired by Shawcor Ltd.
  • 2010 Shawcor acquires a 40% interest in Socotherm S.p.A., a global pipe-coating contractor primarily serving the oil and gas industry.
  • 2011 The advanced Subsea Test Facility, including the industry’s largest and most advanced Simulated Service Vessel for the testing of offshore insulation coating, is inaugurated in Toronto, Canada. Shawcor acquires CSI to broaden portfolio of shop-applied coatings and field coating services.
  • 2012 Shawcor Ltd. acquires the remaining 60% of Socotherm S.p.A
  • 2013 Shawcor acquires the 49% stake in the Socotherm LaBarge joint venture it did not already own.
  • 2013 Shawcor eliminates its dual-class share structure under which the Shaw family controlled Shawcor; Virginia Shaw retires as Chair of the Board.
  • 2014 Shawcor acquires Desert NDT, a leading provider of non-destructive testing (NDT), integrity management and inspection services for gathering pipelines and midstream infrastructure.
  • 2015 Shawcor's total consolidated revenue reaches a new record and exceeds $1.0 billion for the first time and acquires Dhatec, a leading designer of engineered pipe logistics products and services.
  • 2015 Shawcor acquires Flint Field Services’ Tubular Inspection & Management and Global Poly businesses.
  • 2016 Shawcor acquires Lake Superior Consulting, a professional services firm specializing in pipeline engineering and integrity management services.
  • 2019 Shawcor extends its composite technologies offering with the acquisition of ZCL | Xerxes, North America’s largest manufacturer of environmentally friendly fiberglass reinforced plastic underground storage tanks for the fuel, water and wastewater and oil and gas markets.
  • 2019 Shawcor celebrates its 50th anniversary as a publicly traded company.
