Believing how we deliver is just as important as what we deliver.

A strong HSE culture will ensure employee safety, employee health and protection of our environment. All of us must maintain and demonstrate our commitment to HSE in everything we do.

Frank Cistrone, President, Connection Systems

Shawcor's vision is an Incident and Injury-Free (IIF) workplace, with no harm to people and no damage to the environment. We view Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) as a core value and an integral part of all business activities, and are committed to achieving HSE excellence at all of our locations around the world.

Our continuous focus on safety includes the following features and programs:

Monthly Safety Stand Down

The Global IIF Safety Stand Down reviews the safety performance of Shawcor's Connection Systems group and promotes safety awareness with a monthly focus on a high-risk activity. The completion and participation of every employee in the safety stand down will contribute in our journey to an incident and injury-free workplace. The Safety Stand Down is an opportunity for all employees to STOP work for safety and demonstrates leadership commitment to safety.

Driving Safety

  • No cell phone use when driving
  • Reverse parking is mandatory for all vehicles at all company facilities
  • Comply with posted speed limits

Employees have a responsibility to communicate the Policy to visitors prior to arriving. Any breach of the reverse parking policy by a Shawcor employee, visitor or contractor must be immediately corrected.

ThinkSafe Employee Ambassador Program

In 2016, Shawcor launched a behavioral based safety program, led by employees' opinions and messages on safety. This program was meant to empower employees, highlighting spokespeople in each facility to deliver a strong message of putting safety first in Shawcor. The overarching goal is to mobilize a cross-functional team of safety leaders by giving a platform to our employees to voice their views on safety, to make visible commitments and provide peer-to-peer leadership at a site level among employees.

ThinkSafe Toolkit

At our facilities around the globe, we employee many prevention tools to ensure that safety is at the top of everyone's mind as they go through the work day. It is of upmost importance that everyone leaves in the same condition that they arrive in on a daily basis.

Prevention Tools

  • Advanced Safety Audits (ASA) - ASAs are designed to enhance the ability of managers and supervisors to engage in positive interactions with workers regarding safety and recognize and encourage safe behavior
  • Employee Recognition - Our employee recognition program allows managers, supervisors and peers to positively reinforce behaviors that we want to encourage.
  • Request for Action - The Request for Action (RFA) tool is designed to get employees involved in making the workplace safer.
  • Safety Moment - Safety moments are a few moments at the beginning of a meeting when employees, supervisors and/or managers deliver a short message to help colleagues focus on safety and how best to stay safe.
  • Take 5 - The Take 5 for Safety initiative is designed to improve safety performance and reduce incidents when performing non-routine tasks.
  • Toolbox Talk (TBT) - A Toolbox Talk is an informal safety meeting that focuses on safety topics related to a specific job, such as workplace hazards and safe work practices.
