Discover What You Can't See

Beyond simply a process, comprehensive integrity management programs must become ingrained at the heart of organizational culture. Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) approaches pipeline integrity management with vigor and determination – viewed as a welcome challenge rather than an insurmountable feat. LSC provides a lifelong look at your asset by inspecting, assessing and evaluating integrity threats in developing a comprehensive Integrity Management Plan (IMP). Our integrity management solutions protect, monitor, examine and test to assure pipelines or facilities will perform at peak levels–no matter the life-stage, or how large or complex the system. We are your technical partner to assist in operating your asset safely and in compliance with the ever-changing regulatory environment.

INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Our Integrity Management team works to provide timely, accurate, and relevant information about their assets to enable the best possible integrity management decisions. Our customized Integrity Management plans provide the peace of mind that assets are engineered and protected to a standard that ensures safety and exceeds regulatory requirements.

DIRECT ASSESSMENT

LSC conducts direct assessment projects using External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA), and Stress Corrosion Cracking Direct Assessment (SCCDA) methods. LSC’s Integrity Management team works closely with our Corrosion Control team to plan and execute the pre-assessment, indirect inspection, and post-assessment steps. Our Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Technicians execute the direct examination step. LSC’s engineers evaluate existing data, interpret results, and recommend appropriate actions through each step of each iteration in the ongoing ECDA process. Our approach balances long-term system integrity with cost-effectiveness.

DIRECT EXAMINATION

LSC routinely performs direct examinations of clients’ excavated pipelines in the field, primarily through visual, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic testing (including shear wave and phased array techniques). In addition, our NDE technicians assess coating defects, perform basic coating inspection, collect samples for MIC testing and measure soil resistivity, pH, and pipe-to-soil potentials.

WRITTEN INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT

LSC’s Integrity Management team provides clients with a full range of services related to the Integrity Management Programs (IMP) required by 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195 from the review and revision of a client’s existing program to full development of a comprehensive written IMP for hazardous liquids, natural gas transmission or natural gas distribution.

PRESSURE TESTING PLANNING AND EXECUTION

LSC plans and executes pressure tests for several pipeline operators using both hydrostatic and pneumatic techniques. In addition to performing pressure tests as an integrity assessment method on existing pipeline systems, we perform pressure tests as part of commissioning for new mainline, station and facility piping.

REGULATORY INSPECTION FOR IMP, O&M, OQ, PUBLIC AWARENESS AND DAMAGE PREVENTION SERVICES

LSC reviews records and written programs in preparation for regulatory audits. We participate in inspections, aid in responses to inspection findings, and update written programs following an inspection. In addition to pipeline Integrity Management Programs, we provide this service for inspections related to operations and maintenance, operator qualification, public awareness, damage prevention, control room management, and drug and alcohol programs.

IN-LINE INSPECTION (ILI) PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

LSC’s Integrity Management team provides a wide range of In-Line Inspection (ILI) services tailored to each project. Whether anomaly evaluation at a dig site or full-scale project management of an ILI run, we do it all. Our services range from planning and execution of the run, raw data review, and dig selection to field examination and repair method evaluation.
