On the Greek island of South Rhodes, close to Catavia, a new, 115 MW power plant is being constructed as an EPC turn-key contract by TERNA for the Public Power Corporation (PPC) of Greece.
The plant will use diesel engine generator sets running on heavy fuel oil (HFO), with light fuel oil (LFO) as a back-up. There will be a need to transfer fuel to local storage tanks using a pipeline that is both insulated and heat-traced, i.e. has a provision for pre-heating the steel of the pipeline before fuel offload commences. The pipeline will have a submerged 10.75” diameter section offshore, and both buried and unburied 16” diameter sections onshore totaling more than 4.5 km.
Pre-insulated, heat traced hot bends.
Shawcor has been contracted to supply:
- Steel pipes
- Anti-corrosion coating
- Thermal insulation coating
- Heat tracing including heating cables
- Electrical system to feed and control the electric cables
- Engineering services
This project is now undergoing its construction phases in South Rhodes, Greece. Field joint coating execution is successfully being carried. Each new pipeline section is being checked for electrical continuity with regards to cable integrity and correct cable termination, and electrical isolation from adjacent sections.
