Here at Shawcor, we greatly value engaging with local communities. More importantly, we believe in reciprocating the support we receive and therefore, make an effort to give back to the community in any way we can.
Shawcor has contributed to the Enbridge® Ride to Conquer Cancer® charity through an annual direct sponsorship for many years. This year, several employees decided they wanted to do more. Shawcor employees assembled a team to complete the ride this year, further increasing the company’s impact on the event and the community.
“It was an extremely inspiring and sometimes emotional couple of days that brought everyone together for such an amazing cause and has affected each and every one of us in different ways.”
– Jordan Bryson, Business Development, Pipeline Performance
The 9th annual Ride, benefiting the Alberta Cancer Foundation, is a 200-kilometer cycling event spread out over two days across the Alberta countryside. It is a physically challenging event requiring months of training and substantial personal commitment from those who participate.
The 22-person Shawcor team built rapport and camaraderie while also supporting a worthwhile cause. Each member raised over $2,500 and collectively raised nearly $100,000 through sponsorships and donations. The 2017 Ride hosted over 1,500 riders and raised $6.7 million for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Funds raised support breakthrough cancer research, clinical trials, enhanced care, and the discovery of new cancer therapies at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Cross Cancer Institute and 15 other centers across Alberta.
Shawcor is proud of the efforts our employees have made to help those affected by cancer. We look forward to participating again in 2018!
