Here at Shawcor, our commitment to continuous improvement allows us to develop partnerships around the world. Backed by 80-plus years of experience, we bring a wealth of understanding, technology and innovation to pipeline projects, operations and maintenance.

We are proud to announce Shawcor has received funding from the Research Council of Norway to continue the XtremeTemp 350 program, which began in 2015. The main purpose of the program is to develop a wet insulation system for pipelines which can withstand pressures of up to 300 bar and temperatures of 180˚C, for a period of up to 30 years. The system will also be designed to withstand stringent installation conditions.

Shawcor is partnering with polymer institute Norner, where extensive material testing under high temperatures and pressures, combined with advanced analytical measurements are utilized to select the best materials for the development.

The project is part of Norway’s PETROMAKS 2 program, which aims to promote knowledge creation and industrial development to enhance value creation for society by ensuring the development and optimal management of Norwegian petroleum resources within an environmentally sustainable framework.

To support the product development, Shawcor upgraded its state-of-the-art pilot line facility in Norway. The development includes a cross-functional team located in the flow assurance development center in Norway and at Shawcor CR&D in Toronto. The program will run until August 2020.
