Alberta - Southeast Shale

In southern Alberta, activity revolves around the Exshaw Formation. It was initially thought to be similar to the Bakken Formation in the Williston Basin and drove much of the activity in the region. The Exshaw Shale is up to 87 meters thick and has been found at depths ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 feet. It is estimated the formation has generated 2.6 billion barrels of oil.
