Saskatchewan Shale

Saskatchewan produces about 450,000 barrels a day, with conventional heavy oil and thermal heavy oil coming from shale formations scattered around the province. Bakken zones in Canada, known to be rich in oil and gas, span 62,000 square kilometers (24,800 square miles) of southeastern Saskatchewan. An estimated 2.9 Tcf of natural gas and 1.4 billion bbl of oil will eventually be produced from the Canadian portion of the Bakken formation.
